Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) held a meeting of its 28th Top Council on Saturday, during which a committee was formed to prevent incidents like the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) winning the Indian Premier League (IPL) title outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Also, sites for the domestic white-ball series between India and New Zealand were also approved.



The committee will be chaired by BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia. The committee will prepare guidelines about such victory ceremonies within 15 days.



A statement issued by the BCCI said, “The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has convened its 28th top council meeting on Saturday, 14 June 2025.”



The following important decisions were taken during the meeting: The apex council expressed deep grief over the tragic incidents in Ahmedabad and Bangalore, causing unfortunately innocent people to die.



The statement further said, “In view of the incident during the celebration of victory in Bengaluru, the top council has decided to set up a committee to prepare a comprehensive guidelines with the objective of preventing such incidents in future. The committee will join: Devjit Saikia (Chairman), Prabhtej Singh Bhatia (BCCI Treasurer) and Rajiv Shukla (BCCI Vice President). Will do. ”



11 people were killed and 33 injured in the stampede.



The top council confirmed the sites for India’s upcoming white ball domestic series against New Zealand, which will be held in early 2026. The series will play three ODIs in Baroda (11 January), Rajkot (14 January) and Indore (18 January) and five T20 Internationals will be played in Nagpur (21 January), Raipur (23 January), Guwahati (January 25), Vijag (January 28) and Trivandrum (31 January).




The BCCI domestic season 2025-26 has been approved, the session will begin with the Dulip Trophy (August 28, 2025) and will conclude with the Senior Women’s Inter-Jonal Multi-Day Trophy (April 3, 2026).



Some significant changes have been made in the domestic cricket tournament and structure:



*Dulip Trophy and Senior Women’s Challenger tournaments will now be played between six regional teams selected by regional selectors.



*Plate group restructuring has been started in the age groups. The lower 6 teams (based on the ranking of the previous season) will be placed in the plate group for a limited -overs tournament.



*Promotion/Definition Rules Updated: Later, only one team will be promoted/demonstrated between the elite and plate groups.



*Tournament format update: Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Senior Women’s T20 Trophy will now include Super League Charan instead of traditional knockout.



*New Grouping Format: Vijay Hazare Trophy, Senior Women One Day Trophy and Main will follow major tournament 4 elite Group + 1 plate group models like U33 State A Trophy. Most Junior and Women’s Tournaments (U16, U1, U23) have moved into 5 Elite + 1 plate group structure.



The top council has resolved to set up a work group with five (5) ‘umpire coaches’ to oversee the development of umpires and improve their on-field performance. These five ‘umpire coaches’ should have international umpiring experience and have worked as a former umpire.



Additionally, the top council has decided to meet a work group by meeting with three (3) pre -match referees. This work group will be responsible for monitoring the development of the group match referee and providing them opportunities to improve their performance in cricket matches. (ANI)
