A UK food company has reportedly plunged into administration, with more than 40 workers being maderedundant. King Foods, established in 1994, grew into a major supplier of frozen foods and fresh fish, serving both the hotel sector and the wider retail market.

The Aberdeen-based company was responsible for food deliveries to businesses across north-east Scotland. The food company also runs its stores in Edinburgh and Stirling. Foodstore Ltd, which operated under the trading name King Foods, was forced to make a difficult decision after the business came under intense strain from rising operational costs and increasing competition within the sector.

These pressures were compounded by wider challenges affecting the hospitality and catering industries, ultimately leaving the company unable to sustain its operations.

King Foods ceased trading in February after entering administration, with Interpath Advisory appointed to oversee the process.

Sadly for employees, administrators concluded that the business had no realistic prospect of recovery, marking a devastating end for the longestablished supplier.

Geoff Jacobs, managing director at Interpath, told the BBC: "We will now commence the process of marketing the company's business and assets, including its fitted cold storage facility in Aberdeen, its vehicle fleet and other properties."
