The Duchess of Sussex revealed her bedtime ritual in a podcast this week, informing fans she includes "random pictures" and snippets of the kids' life on the given day in the emails. Having got the idea from one of her friends, who is also a mother, Meghan hopes the emails will form a "virtual scrapbook" for Archie, five, and three-year-old Lilibet to look at in the future.


"At some point in their life, I'll say 'Here's an email that I've been keeping for you your whole life. Here's everything and every moment where I wanted to tell you how much I love you and how proud I am of you,'" Meghan, the former actress, said in The Jamie Kern Lima Show podcast.


"For them to be able to look back and go, 'Oh my gosh, she has loved us so much!' That's, I think, the best part about being a mum. It's not about the grandeur of a gesture, it's about 'I see you.'"

The Duchess of Sussex, 43, gave examples of the photos and details she includes in the communication, such as a picture of her children at breakfast or references to something funny they did that day.


And fans have responded with comments online, expressing how "sweet" and "lovely" they feel the habit is. The trend of virtual scrapbooking, and in particular saving images by emailing them, is popular among parents, although it is not necessarily always done at bedtime.


One parent wrote: "That is such a lovely and kind thing to do. Brilliant." Another posted on social media: "I think it is a sweet bedtime habit, and no doubt the kids will love the scrapbook."


Moved to tears in the podcast, Meghan continued: "I'm just so proud of them (Archie and Lilibet). They're just so great." She then quipped she was fortunate not to be wearing makeup - as tears fell down her face during the interview.


The chat comes after to reveal that she was spending quality time with her The Duchess and her husband, have given fans few glimpses of their two children since they stepped down as senior working royals in January 2020 and have gone on to live a financially independent life in California. In recent years, they have only shared obscured glimpses of their children or pictures taken from behind.
