In May, the Income Tax Department had announced to extend the last date for filing ITR from 31 July to 15 September by those persons, Hindu undivided families (HUFs) and institutions for the year 2025-26 (for income earned in FY 2024-25), from July 31 to September 15, which do not have to audit their accounts. So far more than six crore income tax returns (ITRs) have been filed for the assessment year 2025-26.
