“Ballard” is an eagerly anticipated detective drama available on numerous global OTT platforms featuring a compelling portrayal of the LAPD’s cold case investigation work by the uncertain Renée Ballard and her quirky team. Season 2 generated great expectations with regard to more intense pursuit of historical crime, unexpected personal souvenirs, family challenges, and the trademark moral toughness of the Michael Connelly universe.
The second season of Ballard has been confirmed to be in production for Prime Video. The show is based on the Bosch universe and stars Maggie Q and was renewed after premiering to strong global viewership in July 2025.
As of the beginning of 2026, no specific premiere date has been released; however, filming started around February 2026 and should take a few months. Based on Prime Video’s normal timeline for production and post-production, it is likely that the second season will be released in late 2026, during the fall or winter.
It is possible that the second season wouldn’t be released until early 2027, but based on current indicators, the season will likely be released during late 2026.
The core cast is set to return, which includes:
Several Season 1 regulars—including Michael Mosley, Rebecca Field, Victoria Moroles, Amy Hill, Ricardo Chavira, Noah Bean, Alain Uy, and Hector Hugo—are expected to reprise their roles, though not every return has been formally reconfirmed yet.
Some of the Returning cast:
While no official synopsis from Prime Video has been released, season 2 is rumoured to draw heavily from Michael Connelly’s novel “The Waiting” (2024).
Like Season 1, Season 2 will be a gritty, character-driven police procedural filled with moral complexity, institutional challenges, and emotionally grounded stories in the spirit of the Bosch franchise.
Season 2 will consist of 10 episodes, consistent with the length of the previous season.
