Meerut. Meerut, the revolutionary land of Uttar Pradesh, is once again ready to create history. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a visit to Meerut on Sunday, where he will open a box of development projects worth Rs 12,930 crore. The biggest attraction of this visit will be the inauguration of the complete corridor of India’s first ‘NaMo Bharat’ Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) and the grand launch of ‘Meerut Metro’.
According to information shared by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), PM Modi will reach Shatabdi Nagar Namo Bharat station at around 12:30 pm. Here he will flag off Meerut Metro and Namo Bharat train. The special thing is that the Prime Minister himself will travel in the metro till Meerut South Station and take stock of its facilities. After this, at 1 pm he will address a huge public meeting and lay the foundation stone of many new projects for the development of the area.
The Prime Minister will dedicate the entire 82 km long Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor to the nation. Now the remaining sections between Delhi’s Sarai Kale Khan to New Ashok Nagar (5 km) and Meerut South to Modipuram (21 km) will also start. This train with a design speed of 180 kilometers per hour will connect Sahibabad, Ghaziabad and Modinagar directly to the heart of Delhi. Sarai Kale Khan station has been made a multi-modal hub from where passengers will have easy access to railways, Delhi Metro and bus stand.
This is a proud moment for Meerut because the country’s fastest metro service is going to start here. The maximum operating speed of Meerut Metro will be 120 kilometers per hour, which will cover the entire route in just 30 minutes. The most interesting thing is that Meerut Metro and NaMo Bharat trains will operate on the same infrastructure (tracks and signalling), which is a unique experiment in India’s transport sector.
This integrated transport system will not only reduce the travel time between Meerut and Delhi, but will also reduce the pressure of private vehicles on the road. Experts believe that this will drastically reduce carbon dioxide emissions, which will improve the air quality of the area. Local trade and connectivity is expected to reach new heights with the commissioning of major stations like Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul and Modipuram on Sunday.
