India lost, setback to semi-final hopes


New Delhi: India suffered a huge defeat by 76 runs against South Africa in the Super-8 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The match took place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, where India’s hopes suffered a major blow, especially as the net run rate took a hit.


South Africa’s batting


South Africa won the toss and decided to bat first and set a target of 187 runs. They had a bit of a tough start, with Jasprit Bumrah taking two wickets early on. But the 97-run partnership between Dewald Brewis and David Miller gave strength to the team. Brewis scored 45 runs and Miller played a brilliant inning of 63 runs. Ultimately, South Africa challenged India by scoring 188 runs.


India’s batting condition


The Indian team, which set out to chase the target of 188 runs, had a very disappointing start. Ishan Kishan and Tilak Verma were dismissed in the first two overs. Suryakumar Yadav, who could not live up to the expectations, departed after scoring 18 runs. Hardik Pandya and Rinku Singh also could not make much contribution, due to which India was bundled out for 111 runs. Shivam Dubey played some courageous innings of 42 runs, but he could not lead the team to victory.

In this match, Marco Jansen of South Africa took 4 wickets, Lungi Ngidi took 3 wickets and Bosch took 2 wickets. On the other hand, India’s Bumrah took 3 wickets for 15 runs and Arshdeep took 2 wickets. India’s net run rate has become -3.80, making efforts to reach the semi-finals very difficult.
