Cooking Tips: Often, while making sandwiches, we cut off the edges (crust) of the bread and throw it away, but with a little creativity, these remaining pieces can be transformed into many delicious things. In the era of inflation and increasing food waste, it is wise to use everything in the kitchen properly. Let us know some easy and effective ways to use the edges of bread.
Dry the remaining edges lightly in the sun or in a pan. Then grind it in mixer and make fine powder. It can be used to coat cutlets or kebabs, to bind tikkis, to add crunch to pasta or baked dishes and can be stored in an airtight container for several days.
Cut the edges into small pieces, add some oil/ghee, salt, red chilli or chaat masala and fry in the pan. A wonderful and quick snack is ready to eat with tea.
Cut the bread edges into cubes and fry them lightly in butter or olive oil. These give excellent crunch when added to soups and salads.
By frying these pieces in ghee, adding milk, sugar and cardamom, it can be made like halwa. Add dry fruits on top and the dessert is ready in no time.
If the mixture becomes loose while making vegetable tikkis, koftas or rolls, then wet the edges of the bread and mix it. These help in binding the mixture well.
Use as a mini base by bringing the edges together or pressing them lightly. Add sauce, vegetables and cheese on top and cook on the pan.
Flatten the edges by rolling or slightly wetting them, fill the potato or cheese stuffing inside and shallow fry.
