Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Omkar Prasad Nanda struck gold in the Men’s U-20 Shot Put event at the Indian Open Throws Competition in Patiala.


The 18-year-old Omkar topped with a throw of 17.85 metres. Haryana’s Harshit Gahlot and Delhi boy Yash Chhikara finished second and third with efforts of 17.02 and 17.01, respectively.


Odisha athletes also bagged two silver and a bronze medal.


In Women’s Hammer Throw, Divya Shandilya was placed second with a best effort of 53.31 metres. UP girl Tanya Chaudhary won gold with an impressive throw of 61.09 metres.


In the Women’s U-20 Hammer Throw event, Odisha’s Ankita Mohapatra achieved 45.49 metres to finish second behind Haryana’s Khushi (49.45m).


Javelin thrower Kishore Kumar Jena, whose form dipped following a stellar 2023 season which included Asian Games silver, claimed bronze in Men’s Javelin with a throw of 74.75 metres.
