A brand new thriller recently added to Netflix is being touted as the 'perfect one night weekend binge' that should be immediately placed on your viewing list.
The title has just been released on the platform today. A Spanish production, episodes of the six-part limited series vary between 38 minutes to 46 minutes, meaning viewers can quickly make their way through it.
Despite only just being released, many critics have already declared That Night as the must-binge title for Netflix users this weekend. According to the synopsis, the action unfolds during a family holiday in the Dominican Republic , reports the Mirror.
Elena accidentally strikes a man with her car. In a state of panic and fear, she calls her sisters, Paula and Cris, pleading for assistance.
Upon arrival, they must decide how to deal with the accident, as they cannot bear the thought of their younger sister going to prison, leaving her only child motherless. How far will they be willing to go to help protect their family?
Netflix further describes the series as "a gripping and emotional thriller about family loyalty, guilt, and the far-reaching consequences of a single decision."
The series is based on the Sunday Times bestselling novel by Gillian McAllister and is adapted for television by Jason George, whose previous credits include Narcos and Into the Night. The book was lauded by fans as an 'unparalleled holiday thriller' and 'nail biting', according to Good Housekeeping.
Whilst insufficient reviews have been published online to generate a Rotten Tomatoes rating as yet, numerous critics are already lavishing praise upon it. Collider described the series as 'gripping' and suggested it 'refreshingly rewrites a tired genre'.
Screen Rant simply declared it "is the perfect one-night weekend binge". They continued: "If you love crime thrillers and suspenseful murder mystery series, then consider That Night a must-watch new Netflix series that is perfect to binge this weekend.
"Full of action, romance, and even comedy, there are plenty of entertaining moments for everyone to enjoy in what is bound to be Netflix's most-watched new series of the weekend."
Another critic stated: "A very finely paced, grounded dramatic miniseries that escapes its easy thriller premise. It shines through its psychological drama and a relevant examination of grief, despair, and guilt, laying a foundation for a quietly moving finale."
Whilst one assessment maintained: "There are twists and turns in every episode that change the story just a bit the deeper we go into it. The more is revealed, the more chaotic it becomes to watch the sisters squabble. You sit on the edge of your seat as you learn more about them. After the breathless first five episodes, the last episode ends on a heart-wrenching note."
That Night is streaming on Netflix.
