Beyond Paradise is making a return to our TV screens for its highly anticipated fourth series and the BBC has now unveiled a first-look trailer at what DI Humphrey Goodman and the team get up to this time around. The popular BBC programme launched in 2023 and is a spin-off from long-running crime drama Death in Paradise. It continues Humphrey's journey after departing Saint Marie, as he resides and works in the coastal town of Shipton Abbott.
The trailer opens with a voiceover saying: "Detective Goodman is back and when it comes to crime, he never slips up." Yet, this quickly transitions to the unfortunate DI slipping and tumbling over whilst on a boat. Addressing an off-camera individual, Humphrey states: "I need two pencils and a pair of underpants." Matters soon take a more serious direction, as it emerges there will be downsizing and Humphrey must determine who from his team to let go. Following some brief glimpses of the forthcoming cases - including an apparent murder mirroring events from a book - the trailer ends on one final moment.
Humphrey and wife Martha (Sally Bretton), who have previously lived on a houseboat, have taken the significant step of purchasing a house.
Fans of the BBC drama don't have long to wait for series four, as it is scheduled to premiere on Friday 27 March.
A synopsis for the new series reads: "Fact and folklore blur as they investigate the death of a novelist who predicted their demise, a magical night of Dark Morris that soon turns sour, a stolen treasure map that suddenly reappears, and the alleged sighting of a vengeful mermaid lurking out at sea."
It continues: "DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) and Martha (Sally Bretton) embark on married life as they hunt for a new home, whilst Humphrey grapples with a difficult decision that could alter the lives of everyone at the station forever."
Earlier this month, it was revealed that a whole array of guest stars would be making an appearance in Shipton Abbott in the upcoming episodes. Returning guests include Eva Feiler as Lucy Thompson and Phil Daniels as Marvelous Harris.
There are also plenty of fresh faces appearing in the BBC show including Gavin and Stacey actress Melanie Walters. The Welsh actress, 64, played the role of Stacey's mother Gwen throughout the much-adored BBC sitcom.
Other new guest stars include Susan George, Colin McFarlane, Michael Cochrane and Vincent Franklin. Joining them are Alex Macqueen, Tristan Sturrock, Andrea Lowe, Rachel Cassidy, Emily Stott, Rina Mahoney, Susan Penhaligon, James Clay, Kenneth Collard and Narinda Samra.
Beyond Paradise season 4 is set to air on BBC One and iPlayer on Friday 27 March at 8pm.
