The UK's "Premier One-Stop Solution Company for gas measurement and pressure control equipment has entered administration, according to a notice published on the London Gazette website on Thursday (March 18). Utility Meters Warehouse Ltd (UMW), a specialist provider based in Salford, Greater Manchester, has been providing technical solutions for the utilities industry since 2013, but its technical expertise draws on "50 years of IGEM [Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers] compliance" through its leadership and staff.

UMW's core offerings include the design and in-house production of gas meter modules - domestic, commercial and industrial - alongside a wide range of gas pressure regulators through exclusive distribution partnerships. They also provided advanced technical solutions such as electronic volume converters (EVCs), telemetry equipment and station monitoring systems to help reduce natural gas consumption. A major milestone occurred in October 2016 when UMW secured an exclusive UK and Ireland partnership with MeteRSit, part of the Italian SIT Group, allowing them to supply advanced smart and integrated gas meters for both domestic and industrial markets.

Between 2018 and 2019, UMW significantly expanded its partner network, signing deals with Flow Meter Group (Netherlands) for turbine gas meters, GFSA (UK) for gas filtration products and Medenus (Germany) for gas pressure regulators and safety valves.

In June 2022, the company underwent a major change in control. Utility Meters Holdings Limited became the majority shareholder (75% or more), and new directors, including Bruce Mark Baron and Lewis Dolan, took the helm from long-time director Paul Douglas Ryder.

However, as of March 18, the company has entered administration, with Michael Lennon and Mark Blackman, both of KR8 Advisory Limited, appointed as joint administrators, according to The Gazette. They will now manage the company's affairs, with the likely goal of rescuing the business or selling its assets to repay creditors. In 2025, the company had 29 employees.

According to the company's filing history on the Companies House website, for nearly a decade, the filings consisted mostly of standard annual accounts and confirmation statements, indicating a period of steady operation under Mr Douglas Ruder's leadership. After Mr Baron and Mr Doland were appointed to lead the company in 2022, the company registered its first major "Charge" - a form of mortgage or security for a loan - in July, suggesting new investment or debt restructuring.

The company registered several new charges in February and October 2025. In late 2025, the company filed "Satisfactions of Charge," meaning it officially paid off or cleared several older loans or securities, thereby clearing the balance sheet.

According to the most recent financial filing - the Unaudited Abridged Accounts made up to March 31, 2025 - approximately a year before it entered administration - the value of the company's physical equipment (plant, machinery, and office furniture) increased to £28,131, compared to £20,950 in 2024, suggesting they were still investing in operational infrastructure. At the end of the 2025 financial year, UMW was worth just over £2.2million, up from £2.1 the previous year.
