Arsenal will head to Dublin for a pre-season friendly ahead of the 2026-27 Premier League season.

football.london can reveal the Gunners are set to square off against Spanish side Real Betis at the Aviva Stadium on Wednesday, August 5.

It will not be the first time Arsenal have played a pre-season friendly in 'The Fair City' as they previously faced London rivals Chelsea at the 51,700-capacity stadium back in August 2018 when Petr Cech was the penalty-shootout hero against his former employers.

They have also since faced Dundalk at the Aviva in the Europa League in December 2020 when they ran out 4-2 winners over their Irish opponents.

Because the crux of Mikel Arteta's squad is set to participate in this summer's World Cup finals in North America, Arsenal have had to tailor their pre-season plans to minimise travel and the risk of fatigue and burnout.

Last year, they headed to the Far East - Singapore and Hong Kong - for their pre-season tour and have also frequently visited the United States as part of their preparations for a new Premier League campaign.

But this summer is notably different because key players will be handed significant rest following the World Cup as they will need to recharge the batteries following a long, gruelling season.

It's understood the Gunners are also in ongoing discussions about the prospect of booking in another overseas friendly in Europe.

On Sunday, Arsenal fell short in the Carabao Cup final as they were defeated 2-0 by Premier League title rivals Manchester City at Wembley Stadium.

Since then, a number of Arteta's players have withdrawn from international squads due to injury issues. Centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes is the latest to pull out after Brazil's CBF revealed he complained of knee pain following the final.

William Saliba has also withdrawn from France's squad for friendlies in the United States against Brazil and Colombia, respectively.

Forward Leandro Trossard (Belgium) has also joined Eberechi Eze (England) and right-back Jurrien Timber (Holland) in dropping out of the national team squad due to fitness issues.

Captain Martin Odegaard won't be joining up with Norway either as boss Stale Solbakken wants his skipper to rest following a recent knee injury.

Ben White will join up with England though, he's replaced Jarrell Quansah in the Three Lions' set-up, in his first international camp since the 2022 World Cup.
