Admirers of Anne Rice have been left "devastated" following reports that one programme will not return for another series.
Despite only launching in the UK last year, Talamasca: The Secret Order will not be recommissioned for a second series. The six-episode series was another offering for Anne Rice enthusiasts, exploring further a secret spy organisation that audiences may already recognise from The Mayfair Witches, or the novels.
The Talamasca monitor supernatural entities with the new programme delving into their realm as it focuses on one talented law student, Guy Anatole (Nicholas Denton), who quickly discovers his life transformed.
While Talamasca: The Secret Order is situated in the Anne Rice Universe, it isn't adapted from a specific novel, meaning enthusiasts wouldn't anticipate the plot developments. The series initially premiered on AMC in the US, before arriving on Netflix just months afterwards last year, reports the Mirror.
Nevertheless, it has now been confirmed that the programme will not be recommissioned for a second series. Speaking to Variety, an AMC spokesperson stated: "While we are not proceeding with another season of 'Talamasca: The Secret Order,' we are proud of the series and grateful for the efforts of everyone involved."
However, they suggested certain characters and the Talamasca organisation, would probably return to the franchise in due course.
Some Anne Rice devotees have been disappointed by the announcement as one individual posted on Reddit: "Ah man this is disappointing and annoying. Hope this isn't a bad sign for IWTV."
Another remarked: "I'm so devastated. It was great. The building was a little slow but it was so obvious the second season was gonna be the best. And now we wont know what happens with Jasper in the facility, or Guy and his mom."
A third noted: "Damn what was the point", as a fourth contributed: "Nooooo! I actually really enjoyed it!" One individual echoed: "Didn't even get a chance to find its footing."
Over on X, one person posted: "devastated about talamasca being cancelled." Another stated: "Don't talk to me i'm mourning jasper."
However, some weren't surprised as one viewer observed: "They should've put the whole story into one season. I thought it was supposed to be a mini series but the pacing was ridiculous."
Another contributed: "It was like 6 episodes and way too slow. They should've just made a limited series with like a made for tv movie or something."
