The summer months are on the horizon which means days at the beach will soon be with us. The UK is blessed with a number of amazing seaside towns which offer the traditional British seaside experience of golden sands, fish and chips, piers and amusement arcades.
Weymouth, which is often compared with tourist hotspots Brighton and Blackpool, boasts one of the best beaches in Europe. TripAdvisor ranked the Dorset beach among the top 20 in the continent in both 2024 and 2025, praising its golden sands, shallow waters and range of activities. Weymouth is also often ranked alongside Blackpool and Brighton as the top major UK seaside resorts.
The town has been given an extra boost by the recently opened Observation Wheel. Standing at 26 metres tall, the attraction, which permanently reopened for the summer on Friday (March 27), can hold 108 passengers and gives amazing views of the town and surrounding area.
Visit Weymouth said: "After a successful debut year in 2025, Weymouth's Observation Wheel will be open again this Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd March at 11am.
"It looks like we are in for a sunny weekend, so get ready for some amazing views! The attraction will then be open every day from Friday 27th March. From 10.30am on Saturday 28th March, the other beach rides will be open daily - just in time for the Easter holidays."
As well as being named the 19th best beach in Europe in 2024 and the 20th best in 2025, Weymouth is consistently named the best beach in the UK. It was ranked Britain's Best Beach in 2023 by The Sunday Times.
The three-mile long beach is sheltered and features a host of traditional attractions, including donkey rides, Punch and Judy shows and pedaloes. The Weymouth Pavilion Pier, sometimes called the Pleasure Pier, is also popular for its amusement arcades, sea fishing and theatre.
Meanwhile, the shallow and safe water makes it the perfect spot for families. Weymouth Beach also holds Blue Flag and Seaside Awards for its safety and cleanliness.
Weymouth Beach has a host of glowing reviews on TripAdvisor. One visitor labelled it "one of the best in the UK" while others noted its cleanliness and range of activities.

"There are plenty of cafés, ice cream shops, and activities nearby, so there's always something to do. It's perfect for a summer day out or just a peaceful walk along the promenade. Always a pleasure to visit - highly recommend!"
Mr Mrs Wyman wrote "Beautiful long beach, great for shell hunting, very clean well looked after area, really enjoyed our visit. Definitely a beach we will visit again. Even the town, roads and street were very well looked after and clean."
Sam and Paul 2013 added: "Weymouth Beach has always been a clean and sandy beach. Which it still is. There are donkeys on the beach. From the beach there are shops and arcades."
