Race Across the World returned to BBC One for its sixth series on Thursday (April 2) as five new teams took on the challenge of racing each other more than 12,000km across Europe and Asia. Each team must travel the lengthy distance with a minimal budget in the hopes of winning £20,000. Although it was only the first episode, one contestant immediately stood out to viewers, with numerous fans of the show taking to social media to complain about 59-year-old hypnotherapist Margo who hails from Liverpool. She was racing with her brother-in-law Mark, a 66-year-old retired architect from London.
Taking to X, the audience at home voiced their complaints about her, with one writing: "Margo would be the person on your holiday that pretends she friends with everyone but everyone really can't stand her, she's also the person that has travelled everywhere, thinks she's better than everyone else, and makes a complete tot of herself on Karaoke."
Another added: "Margo already getting on my nerves....she's been everywhere!!" A third chimed in: Margo is driving me mad already and it's only been on for 10 mins."
A fourth speculated about her team mate: "I'm sure Mark is rushing as fast as he can so can escape Margo. Might end up a week earlier than every other team."
However, she won over several viewers just minutes after making her first appearance on the show, with one person commenting: "Margo is such a vibe already I love her."
Meanwhile another viewer shared: "Love all the couples in #RaceAcrossTheWorld but have a soft spot for Margo. She is an absolute ray of sunshine."
Margo and Mark were inspired to take part in the show after caring for her sister, his wife, before her death. They are up against four other couples as they race from Palermo on the island of Sicily all the way to the remote village of Hatgal on the shores of lake Hövsgöl, in northern Mongolia.
Another team is made up of childhood best friends from Liverpool - college student Jo and gap-year student Kush, both 19, who are the youngest duo in the race.
Also hoping to emerge victorious are siblings Katie, 21, and account manager and Harrison 23, a finance assistant from Manchester, who admitted they lived in 14 homes while growing up.
Meanwhile, Northern Ireland is represented by junior doctor Molly, 23, who is racing with her father Andrew, a 54-year-old geography teacher. Finally, 31-year-old doctor Puja and her cousin, 32-year-old software engineer Roshni, who both hail from London, are hoping to come out on top.
