Acharya Chanakya was one of the greatest philosophers who lived in India. As we may already know, the visionary thinker’s guidance helped the emperor Chandragupta establish the Maurya Empire in 320 BCE. In this article, we will explore 3 powerful traits possessed by almost all the successful people as per the teachings of Chanakya.
1. Chanakya About Learning
“One destitute of wealth is not destitute, he is indeed rich, but the man devoid of learning is destitute in every way.”
According to Chanakya, the most important element of wealth that any human being can possess is learning or wisdom. Acharya believed that the educated man will be respected everywhere. Money, friendships, material possessions can come and go. However, the wealth of education that an individual has developed will never leave him. Furthermore, the learnings will help him or her to strive through the toughest phases of their lives as well. Hence, whether it is through books, experiences or discussions, we should be learning throughout all the stages of existence.
2. Chanakya About Health
“Wealth, a friend, a wife, and a kingdom may be regained; but this body when lost may never be acquired again.”
Acharya believed that health is another most important aspect of human life. Through immense hard work and intelligence we can amass wealth, fame or kingdoms. But we will be able to enjoy these things only if we are healthy, both physically and mentally. Therefore, we should always prioritise our health by maintaining a nutritious diet, by exercising, meditating and by socialising with the right people. A sound body and a sound mind is the foundation of a good life.
3. Chanakya About the Present Moment
“We should not fret for what is past, nor should we be anxious about the future; men of discernment deal only with the present moment.”
The basic nature of the human mind is run to and forth. If we truly observe our mind, we will understand that it will either be worrying about the past or it will be thinking about the future. Nevertheless, the element that we have in our absolute control is only the present moment. True happiness and balance of life can be found only by living in the present. To achieve this, we can engage in meditation or some kind of mindfulness practices like yoga or breathing exercises.
