Former Australian cricketer Aaron Finch has expressed his support for all-rounder Cameron Green, who is currently facing challenges at the crease. Despite his recent struggles, Finch believes Green should continue batting higher in the order. Green, who was acquired by KKR for a hefty sum of Rs 25.20 crores, has had a disappointing performance, scoring only four runs off two balls in a recent match against Punjab Kings (PBKS), which was ultimately declared a no-contest. Cricket Australia has confirmed that Green is dealing with a lower-back injury, which has prevented him from bowling for KKR. To date, he has accumulated just 24 runs across three innings, with a top score of 18. However, he is reportedly working on his bowling in the nets and is expected to return to that aspect of his game soon.

Finch's Observations: 'He Appears Tentative'

During a discussion on ESPNCricinfo's 'Timeout', Finch remarked, "One of his dismissals was a run-out, which wasn't entirely his fault. Nevertheless, he has missed opportunities twice. There seems to be a bit of panic; he doesn't appear to be the same player as before. Recall how he played at the top of the order for MI—his intent was completely different." He further noted, "He was commanding at the crease. Currently, he seems tentative. Instead of pushing him down the order, consider promoting him or giving him a break."

Green's Previous IPL Achievements

Cameron Green had a standout season with the Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2023, amassing 452 runs in 16 innings, averaging 50.22 with a strike rate of 160.28, including a century and two fifties, while also taking six wickets. In the 2024 season with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), he contributed significantly with 255 runs in 12 innings at an average of 31.87 and a strike rate of 143.25, achieving a best score of 46 and claiming 10 wickets at an average of 30.30, with best bowling figures of 2/12. Unfortunately, he missed the 2025 season due to injury but had an impressive year with Australia, scoring 258 runs in eight innings at an average of 43.00, including three fifties and a strike rate of 168.62.

Challenges on the International Front

This season, Green has batted at number three twice and at number four once. However, he has struggled to replicate his previous form, managing only 117 runs in seven innings for Australia at an average of 19.50 and a strike rate exceeding 123, with a highest score of 36. In the T20 World Cup, he scored 24 runs across three innings and took just one wicket.
