Dominik Szoboszlai has issued an apology to Liverpool supporters after being wound up by their reaction to the recent hammering at the hands of Manchester City. Liverpool were sent crashing out of the FA Cup following a 4-0 drubbing by City on April 4 - and Szoboszlai's conduct after the final whistle sparked a fierce backlash among fans. Some 8,000 Liverpool supporters were present at the Etihad Stadium to witness Erling Haaland's hat-trick during a thoroughly demoralising display from the visiting side.

Mo Salah's squandered penalty only compounded the misery for what was left of the Reds away end, who made their displeasure abundantly clear once the referee blew for full-time. Those who had remained in their seats could be heard booing Arne Slot's men, much to the irritation of Szoboszlai. The midfielder was spotted confronting the away supporters, waving his arms and shrugging his shoulders before Federico Chiesa stepped in to usher him away.

His conduct did not sit well on social media, where some branded him "arrogant" for seemingly believing he is beyond reproach. However, speaking at a press conference ahead of the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash with Paris Saint-Germain, Szoboszlai moved to set the record straight.

"To make it clear it was a misunderstanding with me and the fans, I didn't mean it in a bad way," he said when quizzed on whether he had a message for supporters. "I know what the fans mean to this club.

"As a player we do everything for them and us. If it was a misunderstanding then I apologise, they can feel also that I am not feeling better than them, exactly the same as they do. I am with them and we are with them, hopefully they are with us as well."

Liverpool secured a 2-0 victory over Fulham in front of their home supporters on Saturday and must now overturn a 2-0 first-leg deficit against PSG in Paris. The Fulham fixture saw fans demonstrate against proposed ticket price hikes, but Szoboszlai has urged supporters to play their part on Tuesday evening.

"Anfield is going to make a big impact tomorrow," he said. "We saw it many times this and last season for sure, it's going to be not only 11 and subs, it's the whole stadium and we know how it feels to be at LFC with these fans at Anfield. We don't need any more motivation."

The Hungarian international has pledged a contrasting performance after a subdued Liverpool deployed a five-man defensive line and barely troubled PSG throughout the opening encounter.

"We can talk tactics but I won't open it up publicly but it will be a different game for sure, we will do different things and we saw what they did in the first game, so we will manage it and need to go all in and give everything that is possible," he said.

"If you can say you gave everything and we didn't go through, you can still keep your chin up and say we tried it. But everyone knows what we have to do and I surely believe there is a big opportunity tomorrow."
