Netflix's rival to The Traitors has made its comeback with a fresh new series.

The initial batch of episodes of Million Dollar Secret Season 2 are now available from today (April 15). The first three instalments can be watched with additional parts being released over the coming fortnight.

Presented by Liverpool-born comedian and actor Peter Serafinowicz, the eight-part competition reality programme is characterised by the streamer as a contest of intelligence, strategy and subterfuge.

The programme launched with its inaugural series last year and swiftly proved popular amongst Netflix subscribers.

Serafinowicz himself has previously described the series as a 'unique game of prey and predator'. Audiences were immediately captivated by the programme in what was frequently likened to a fusion of BBC's The Traitors and ITV's The Fortune Hotel.

These comparisons are rather fitting as Million Dollar Secret shares comparable characteristics. According to Netflix, Season 2 will feature even greater stakes with more complex agendas and demanding challenges , reports the Mirror.

What is Million Dollar Secret about?

Million Dollar Secret's concept involves 12 strangers relocating to a lakeside mansion called The Stag. Immediately upon arrival, they randomly choose a room key, typically linked to an animal.

Within their rooms, they discover a mysterious box. The majority of these are empty but one holds $1 million cash. The individual who finds the money must do everything possible to hide their identity while the others try to determine who has just become a secret millionaire.

All participants are additionally required to engage in daily activities. Those who triumph in challenges, whether as part of a team or individually, are typically granted access to the Trophy Room. Inside, they may receive clues that hint at the millionaire's true identity.

That's not all, as in every episode, host and comedian Peter Serafinowicz will assign the millionaire a secret mission to secure their own advantage. This may lead them to exhibit some peculiar behaviour, but should they succeed, they could prove decisive at the nightly elimination dinners, where contestants will be called upon to vote for who they believe is holding the money.

However, contestants don't always know who cast their vote for whom. Regardless of whether they are correct or mistaken, the individual receiving the most votes will be forced to leave The Stag immediately. Before departing, they must open their box and reveal whether or not they are the millionaire.

Should they be holding the cash, the money transfers overnight to someone new. To claim the prize, contestants simply need to be in possession of the box containing the funds. Far easier said than done when everybody is attempting to guess who has left a considerable sum of money back in their room.

During the previous season's finale, the remaining contestants were given the opportunity to exchange boxes based on their performance in the final task and their suspicions about who the millionaire was. Only the first three episodes of season 2 are currently available to stream, with the following three episodes dropping on 22 April and the last two instalments, including what promises to be a dramatic finale, arriving on 29 April.
