Sometimes the best TV shows fall under the radar if they receive little publicity - and that appears to be the case for one "underrated" programme now available to stream on ITVX. The identity of the programme was revealed by several Reddit users in response to a post asking for suggestions on series that may have passed many viewers by.
"Suggest some underrated shows that no one talks about," began the post in the Television Suggestions subreddit. It elaborated: "We all see those overrated shows that are blown out of proportion on the internet. Drop some shows or mini series that you're secretly gatekeeping."
Writing in response, one person commented: "Detectorists. Fisk." A second concurred with the latter, declaring: "Glad to see Fisk. I loved it." While a third respondent listed: "Happy Endings, Catastrophe, Fisk, Life In Pieces, Wings."
Described as a "laugh out loud" comedy drama, Fisk is an Australian television series that first aired in 2021, and is three seasons in length. The show was co-written and co-created by Kitty Flanagan, who also stars as lead character, Helen Tudor-Fisk - a lawyer who leaves her native Sydney for Melbourne following the collapse of her marriage and career.
Also starring Julia Zemiro, Marty Sheargold and Aaron Chen, Fisk has an IMDb rating of eight out of 10 from more than 9,000 reviews. Its synopsis states: "Fast-paced comedy about high-end contracts lawyer Helen Tudor-Fisk, who is forced to take a job at a shabby, suburban law firm following a humiliating marriage breakdown and a professional fall from grace."
And a fourth series could be in the pipeline for those eager for another installment. Last year, Kitty Flanagan told the Sydney Morning Herald: "It's just a matter of everyone finding the time. It's an incredible group, and it doesn't really work without the whole group.
"And with Chenny [Chen] flying the coop to New York, it's just a matter of getting everyone together. Penny [co-creator and sister] is working on other things at the moment, but there is so much love for it out there."
On review site, Rotten Tomatoes, meanwhile, Fisk boasts a highly impressive 'Popcornometer' rating (the percentage of users who rated it 3.5 stars or higher) of 96 per cent. The most recent recent review read: "I only discovered this show after watching Aaron Chen mention it on his stand up comedy special on Netflix
"I am so glad I did cause it was great! I literally saw all three seasons in two days. It was so well written and I thought the cast was amazing."
While a second fan praised: "Pure gold. A hidden gem of a show with quirky humor, great characters and lots of creativity in the writing. Absolutely love every season of it."
