At the Wankhdede Stadium, the Kolkata Knight Riders ended the 12-year curse with a decisive victory of 24 runs over the Mumbai Indians, demonstrating their ability to bounce back.
Venkatesh Iyer performed a remarkable job at bat, rescuing KKR from dire circumstances after they lost five batsmen in the first seven overs. Manish Pandey, the impact replacement, stood with him as they rebuilt the innings with a goal of 170 runs.
With statistics of 4/33 in 3.5 overs, Mitchell Starc proved to be the most impressive bowler of the second innings, showcasing his elite skill and experience. The Australian fast claimed three wickets in his last over to end the contest, which was down to the penultimate over.
The two-time champions need this victory to maintain their comfortable position as the second-best team in the league stages. They are now two points ahead of the opposition in the standings and have a far higher net run rate.
While the Royal Challengers Bengaluru haven’t played their eleventh game, the Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, may be languishing at the bottom of the league, but their better net run rate puts them slightly above the bottom. Should the latter win, MI would find themselves at the bottom of the standings, marking a new low point for the five-time champions.
The Mumbai Indians’ season is all but over after the defeat. With only three games left in the season, they currently have almost no chance of qualifying for the playoffs. They do, however, want to finish the season well and maybe leave with a winning record.
