Professor Devendra Jalihal has assumed charge of Director at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. Before his appointment, Prof.Jalihal served as Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Madras. Read more about the former professor of IIT Madras.



Prof.Jalihal took the charge of Director on May 15, 2024, succeeding Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, who held the additional charge of IIT Guwahati since November 2023.



Expressing his gratitude towards taking charge of the role, he said, "IIT Guwahati is a prestigious institution ranked consistently among the top 10 by the NIRF Rankings and high research citation rank of 32 in QS world rankings. Situated in one of the most biodiverse and economically dynamic locations of the country, this region has experienced rapid infrastructure development, skill enhancement, and industrial growth."



About Former IIT Madras Professor and IIT Guwahati Director Devendra Jalihal



Professor Jalihal graduated from IIT Kharagpur and earned his degree in B.Tech.(Hons) in 1983. He later completed his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Duke University, Durham, USA, in 1992.



In 1994, he joined Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Madras and served as the Head of the Department (HoD) from 2016 to 2019. He also chaired the Centre for Outreach and Digital Education at IIT Madras where he was examining all educational outreach activities and collaborates with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on strategic communication challenges.



He has contributed to various projects including low bit-rate video conferencing, tactical communication systems, disaster management communication systems, and satellite communication networks.
